BEER HISTORY, storytelling + collaborations
A prominent beer and tavern historian, Liz was among the first to explore history through the lens of alcohol. For nearly three decades, her research has examined the powerful role beer and alcohol have played in shaping human connection, culture, and urban life.
As Founder and Executive Director of the Beer Culture Center, Liz leads a cultural institution dedicated to exploring the ways beer (and alcohol) have shaped humanity. Her work extends beyond traditional scholarship and interpretation: she collaborates directly with breweries to transform history into something people can experience, creating beers inspired by historic people, places, and events. Each collaboration uses the pint as a vehicle for storytelling, bringing overlooked and unexpected histories to life in an entirely new way.
Over the past decade, Liz has also curated and consulted on beer-focused exhibitions and developed educational programs for adult audiences at museums across the country, establishing a body of work that bridges historical research, museum practice, and contemporary beer culture.
